Holy Week--Thursday

Crucifixion (1524),
by Jorg the Elder Breu (1475/1476-1537)

"While we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8

"One of the reasons Jesus died was that
God might be able to freely forgive the sins of all who trust Christ.
That's the message of the Gospel:
'Christ died for our sins' (1 Corinthians 15:3).
We don't have to carry the burden and guilt of sin
because on Calvary Jesus bore the burden for us.
Now we be forgiven and we can be forgiving because of Calvary."
--Warren Wiersbe, The Cross of Jesus, p. 55
